Knitting - Poppy

 

Her eyes are smiling! 

I have tried several times to stitch a smile but I just haven't been able to get the expression right...  I will keep trying...

 

I added bunches and bobbles (I couldn't get decent photos of them!)

She's taller than the pattern suggests at 14.5".  I used acrylic yarn and I think my knitting was a bit loose in parts... her legs are quite chunky and the stitches at the neck are quite open.

I think she turned out really well!  I would highly recommend Ysolda Teague's pattern from Whimsical Little Knits.

LYS

As you may have noticed this blog has become quite knitterly lately.  Combined with a growing Little Bunny Rabbit and a need for a job (preferably doing something I enjoy) I have teamed up with Karen (the Professional Artist) to explore the idea of a local yarn shop.

Well, its gone beyond an idea...  after lots of chat, debate and some number crunching we hope to open a local yarn shop.

There.  I said it.  Out loud.

We are doing some market research. Obviously those living outwith Central Scotland will not be our core customer but if you have views on what makes a good LYS and would like to contribute please click here to answer our questionnaire.

Knitting - Poppy

I think I have a new obsession.  And she is called Poppy.

Using Drops Fabel and Simple Socks in Easy Kids Knits by Claire Montgomerie... 

I should be knitting an adult sized pair but I didn't like the yarn I bought for them.  

I only have one ball of Fabel so can't do adult... shame as they are striping up well.

Knitting - Poppy

She's just a blank head at the moment...

My first doll!  I'm using Ysolda Teague's pattern from her book Whimsical Little Knits.

So far its been very straightforward and only a little fiddly...

She's HUGE!  Think she ends up 12" tall.  Love the shape of her face.

Knitting - Lopi Bag

I originally 'finished' it in August last year but I was unhappy with the loose bottom.

I put it through another hot wash and lost approx 1" from height and width, but it is much better.

added a crochet flower (by Karen) and some 'chip' beads.

Very quick to knit (few hours) and destined for the Sea Queen Day stall...

(not on my original list... sometimes I wonder why I bother with them...)

BUT I don't have a 6-9 month baby handy to try the thing on!

Sea Queen Knitting

Each year our local stitching group have a stall at the village gala day in aid of a local charity.  Last year I did this.  This year I aim to do this...

This is the back side of a table cloth, stitched by my Mum's partner's Mum.

She would be nearing 100 now so I think it is quite old.

My Mum would have been 74 today.

Happy Birthday Mum.  Miss you.
